About Us > HistoryCroydon Little Athletic Centre’s Story The association was started in 1966 from a simple athletic meeting for children held in Geelong in late 1964. A meeting of Club Delegates in August 1969 formed the Croydon Centre, having a total of 701 members in the 5 to 12 age groups. Competition was held at the oval next to Fibremaker’s, and moved to the Croydon oval in 1971, by season 1975/76 competition at the Croydon oval was meeting problems because of the removal of safe fencing and tree planting in the competition area. This problem was solved the following year when competition was transferred to the Town Park track, and we have been here ever since, with no real rooms we could call home, now with the support of the Vets and Eastern Ranges and we have the new club meeting room. Which will be known as the Keystone Athletics Clubroom. Over the years our membership numbers were anything from 701 in 1969-70 to 470 in 1999-2000. The age groups ranged from under 7 to under12 (69-70), under 6 to under 16 (InterAths) 99-2005. We run on a principle Family, Fun and Fitness, but also that you do not have to win to achieve, just do your best, as a personal best is better than winning. |
